The afternoon fading go-between
And tambourines as well adorn my dreams
The sanguine glow of lanterns grows ever strong
As shadows grow longer

The orchestra in sequin gowns
A secret glance of dancers winding down
A girl ignores the final chords
And lingers on, on languid lawns

That dim refrain, sad melody
It haunts my brain and taunts my memory
And when I cry I hear close by
