Any Road
You can travel a lifetime,
Search for a view
To your heart, to your dreams,
To the many paths from which to choose.
You can be your own god
And design your own truth.
You can hide and decide to get lost inside of you.
Tell yourself,
You are on the straight and narrow.
Going who knows where,
Wandering, wondering what's there.
Any road will do,
If you have no destination
And the way seems clear,
But you're never nearer to the end.
Any road is fine,
If you're moving in circles,
making good time.
But really, where are you
If any road will do.
I have traveled a lifetime,
And I stand at this place,
Knowing joy, knowing peace,
Knowing sorrow and disgrace.
Now I stand at the crossroads,
Wondering which road to choose
One familiar, one not
Fearing all I've got to lose.
I tell myself I can answer all of my uncertainties.
I'll read the signs, I'll be just fine.
Watch me, watch me and see.
Any road will do,
If you have no destination
And the way seems clear,
But you're never nearer to the end.
Any road is fine,
If you're moving in circles,
making good time.
But really, where are you
If any road will do.
I could turn back on the road,
Return to what I know
Or sit down where I am,
Refuse to ever move again.
I could go with the crowd,
Never stop to think about
Where I go,
Or I could carve a new road.
Any road will do,
If you have no destination
And the way seems clear,
But you're never nearer to the end.
Any road is fine,
If you're moving in circles,
making good time.
But really, where are you
If any road will do.
