Yesterday, today, tomorrow
Nothing ever goes my way
I see you from across the room
Eagerly answering "I do"

We were two of a kind
Night and day, left and right
I'd die just to see you smile
Just so you'd hold me for a while

We lived in our little world
Pretty boy and lonely girl
And every time I'd meet your eyes
You always stared off to the right
I finally asked why

You said, "I know you care an awful lot about me
I'd hate to say my heart belongs to her
I can't give you what you want, I'm sorry
I just don't want to make you hurt"

I said, "Darling, I want you to be happy
Even if it means that you're with her

You tell her that you love her and you need her
And so she takes your hand and holds it close
You never keep her out of sight, she never keeps you out of mind
How wonderfully poetic that must be

I'm watching as you walk her down the aisle
I'm watching as you tell her all your vows
I'm watching your life story unfold before your feet
I'm watching as you call her your wife
You look to me and sigh

You say, "I'm glad you care an awful lot about me
You never held a grudge about the girl
You finally see the ending of the story
I just hope I didn't make things worse"

I say, "Darling, I'm hoping that you're happy
I send all of my blessings to you lovebirds
I can't feel any pain, so don't you worry
Your heart is full, relieving all concern"
