Just Slip Away
If life were a dream
At the end of the day
Maybe I would close my eyes
And just slip away
To some brighter pasture
Or a valley of green
I’d tie my boat up
And listen to a stream
And my mamma would wake me
And her hands would be clean
And daddy’s eyes would shine
From the light that he’d seen
And the land would stretch out
Behind the house
I’d button up
My favorite blouse
And behind the house
By the old wood pile
The foxes would run
And the trees would smile
And my brother would brush off
The dirt from his knees
And I’d look up
To another masterpiece
If life were a dream
At the end of the day
Maybe I would close my eyes
And just slip away…
