My Little Dog (Where's He Gone)

JUNE TREMAYNE, NORMAN WISDOM

Once when I was lonely
And I hadn't much to spend
I bought a little doggy so that
So that I could have a friend
Through thick and thin we've stuck together
In the good days and the bad
And now he's gone and lost himself and its made me feel so sad

Where's he gone
(Whistling)
I've been wondering all around the town
Looking everywhere, whistling up and down
Wondering where he's gone
I hope I've done nothing wrong
Where's he gone
Perhaps he'll hear me if I do a doggy howl
Has he gone of on the prowl
To meet a lady friend
Oh dear, I hope this isn't the end

It's not how much he cost
He's got no pedigree
He's not a swanky boy
I know you'll understand, well
Just what he meant to me
Cause his company was such a joy

Oh please
Where's he gone
Maybe someone has taken him away
Maybe someone thought he was just a stray
Needing a nice new home
Oh look
He hasn't even got his bone

I know it's true we couldn't afford perhaps all the things we need
But we've got a lovely piece of string we used to call it our lead
At night he had his biscuits and then I had me bread
And that was supposed to be our supper
Before we went to bed
I know he was grateful, cause he used to lick me face
And he even used to sit up when we said our grace
Oh yes and then one day when I was nearly knocked down by a car
He ran out and he bit it
Just for me
And that's how he got his scar
Cats, well they have their backs at him and then they'd turn and run
But he wouldn't hurt a fly really no
Oh that's just his doggy fun
Flies, he sticks his tongue out so that they can land on it and play
Then he swallows them whole
Cos you see, he reckons it doesn't hurt them that way

Oh come on
Where's he gone
Maybe someone will him back one day
Maybe someone will hear my doggy say
Woof woof
Please Norman come and take me home
So I've made up me mind that well
Just in case I'm gonna save his bone
