The Crow and The Raven (III)

Elliott Blaufuss, Glenn Brown, Joe Funk (Kitchen Dwellers), Max Davies, Shawn Swain, Torrin Daniels

Leavin′ this morning out of Oakland to the prairie
Last night I might've got some rest
Hard way to fall, from a heartbreak to a city
But year after year I chase my troubles here

You can′t steal a heart if you know you never found it
Lord, at least I admit I tried
Please forgive this trespass for I knew she could sing my death
Leave me by the road in them lonesome fields of rye

Noticed something changin' in the corner of her eye
And now I'm back beneath the circles of the blackbirds in the sky

I knew that she might leave me when the days got to gettin′ longer
She′s just a bird in misery and won't come down alone
If she′d just let herself fly a little lower
I might tell the difference in a raven and a crow

Wheels turnin' north on that East Sierra Highway
Burnin′ mountains on my shoulder
Just like the deserts that darken to the East
Swear I could almost feel her gettin' colder

Under the yellow pine the night she went away
Realized I′s ridin' for the fall
Fair weather friend I make out it's the end
And it all falls deaf on mountain air

Noticed something changin′ in the corner of her eye
Now I′m back beneath the circles of the blackbirds in the sky

I knew that she might leave me when the days got to gettin' longer
She′s just a bird in misery and won't come down alone
If she′d just let herself fly a little lower
I might tell the difference in a raven and a crow

Wasn't her I saw with feathers changing
But the thrush is the sound that calls me from the willow
Sunset′s better in California
But I might be gone when the wind comes for tomorrow
I might be gone when the wind comes for tomorrow

You can't steal a heart if you know you never found it
