I Don't Know
An old friend passed away the other day, 3 weeks shy of 31
I went to pay respects and say a word to the parents of their son
He was loyal and kind, had my back in a bind, he'll be on my mind
And with me every day
I can only hope to get enough rope to go see him where he is no someday
And I don't know, I don't know
Why some remain, while others go
I can't comprehend
I don't understand
I won't even try to pretend
I don't know
In my search I went to church to see if I could find out for myself
But nothings been found on holy ground and the answers not in a book up on the shelf
Seems every year somebody leaves here and leaves me questioning it all
I don't believe God can receive a complaint on the end of some phone call
And I don't know, I don't know
Why some remain, while others go
I can't comprehend
I don't understand
I won't even try to pretend
I don't know
There's a cemetery staring at me every time I drive out of town
I wonder if those souls are up above, or simply underground
I guess I'll find in my own time if there's another side or not
But until then I won't think of the end, only about the time I've got
Cause I don't know, I don't know
Why some remain, while others go
I can't comprehend
I don't understand
I won't even try to pretend
I don't know
