Suspended

Guy Davis

Sinking in to my, my living room floor
Basking in a glow
It's casting shadows on the cave walls
I'm loosening my hold on what's real
And what's wrong
Is this just a phase
As the birds call for the dawn
On another sunny day

I head out to the shops
Oh I swear sometime I'll carry on down the Old Kent Road
It's everything I wanted
Hey maybe I don't want it all that much
So lord give me a sign
Because lately I've had nothing in my head
I'm suspended in a void
I'm always talking to myself

Then I look up
Just for a change of pace
Let my gaze fade into
An endless cerulean
And are these faithless getting through
To another sunny day

If I should fall
Would I fall from grace like the ancient gods
Or underneath your spell
If I should fall
Let it be like waves upon your shore
Where the water is always sweetest
From the bottom of the well

And I grow older still
Maybe it's the season
Maybe it's these thoughts
Of a kingdom yet to come

But you wanted to fight for a cause
And walk upon this earth where the wild wind blows
This big old ball of rock
It ain't even dust
We're all just floating through the universe

So before this ends
Have I earned my ride
On life's slow-burning river bends
Well at least 'til the river's dry
And can heaven wait
To carry me away on the evening tides

And we'll watch the world turn
Just turning away
And it'll keep rolling on
Until the time comes
For another sunny day
