Stay What You Are
Well, I could wax political, reek of nostalgia
It's all too typical to burn out or fade away
Preach poetic until the amnesia sets in
Because what's more pathetic, played out or overplayed?
Can't slow down is an anthem
But like me that sentiment has grown tired
We're never as cool as we are in our former lives
I am what I am so stay what you are
Well, I could wax symbolic, fall flat ironic
With the empty causes that left me high and dry
Or plead innocent when we're guilty as sin
Of running in circles and playing it safe
Your last word spoken still echos
The first words sung in my first car
Ever the fool when we're young and we feel alive
I am what I am so stay what you are
A rival city is where I met you
And who would've known you'd steal heart
The minutes we make hold us tight when we're apart
I am what I am so stay what you are
