A Tape From My City

Daniel Saad

You hate to feel alive so insecure inside
All against each other we fighting one another
And I'm tired, a heavy heart I'm shuttered
When I see all my brothers getting killed in the slumps
Fighting for the crumbs I see them chasing dreams
And try to overcome the hard times with ease
Wanna reach the stars & take the planet over
Young men tryna make it spitting bars cop a Rover hit the charts
Thinkin' that's the way for them to set they fate
To build a perfect life, livin' straight
But that's the only dream
They be having to escape
So when it doesn't work
Suicidal rates are getting high
Criminality & violence on the rise
Now they hit the drought
They don't know what to do
But what is there to do when you a dropout
School ain't for me
No missions to pursue so they lost with no job
What I say is based upon things I really saw
I'm thinking déjà vu
I see it on the news
Here's another shootout
This man was on a stakeout
Shot a couple bullets, hit his target
They heard it on the block
So now they call the cops
Another crime scene
With a Glock that they found
Next to his feet
Another homicide
Another brother died
I'm done seeing parents losing sons to the streets
Who started selling weight
Tried to get the cheese on they plate
Bullets in the back
'Cause he forgot the drugs
Killed as a payback
Said he had it coming
But now
The blood is pouring down
Puddles on the pavement
His body on the ground
'Cause he forgot a payment
Should we blame ourselves?
Criticize the system?
We gotta fix this mess
Make it work for all these victims
We lost so many souls
It feels like evil won
Did God lose control? Tell me?
For whom the bell tolls? Tell me?
This world is getting cold and my soul
Sometimes cannot take it
But I pray for better days
It's time for us to change
I'm asking the Lord
Make evil go away
My letter in this tape
It's time to make a way
I'm trusting the Lord
We will be okay, yeah
You deserved better
But I wish you knew better
Rest easy
Peace
