Cerulean is lovely, and indigo's a treat
But beside my discovery, they pale and can't compete
I thought that I had seen it all, but I now know that's not true
Since the day I met you, I've found a brand-new shade of blue

It's midnight when I see it, or maybe 3 a.m
But I know I can't defeat it by letting day light in
Though I've tried all the usual things, it sticks to me like glue
My perfect imperfection, my brand-new shade of blue

I think I'll paint my masterpiece, in oils and decoupage
I'll capture how the light reveals your hair in a collage
With reds and greens and oranges, I'll savor every hue
Until I've used them all to make my brand-new shade of blue

I see it in the shadows that lengthen as the day
Decides to put its hat on and quietly slip away
I see it in the falling snow, I've seen it high I've seen it low
But I can't bid adieu to my brand-new shade of blue
