Panini

Bison

I'd come so close the year before,
it almost made me cry.
So I vowed there would be no repeat
of '84/'85.

I picked my sticker album up
with the two free packets of six.
The first player that made it in
was Arsenal's Graham Rix

And so my holy grail began
to fill up every page.
There were highs and lows as you might expect
when there is so much at stake.

My pocket money came and went
but it was worth all the effort it took,
to put last season's dissapointment behind me
and complete my panini book.

Panini, Panini,
you also help to educate.
Panini, Panini,
you're all I read until I was eight, until I was eight.

Oh swapsies were invaluable,
without them this song would be sad.
I gladly swapped all of Luton Town,
for the shiny Everton badge.

Then gradually, over time,
it started filling up,
with Scottish players I'd never heard of
and scenes from past FA Cups.

Panini, Panini,
you taught me all I needed to know.
Panini, Panini,
when I look at you my heart seems to glow, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh.

Until finally there was just one space
but for weeks it messed with my head.
The pimpernel was less elusive
than Chelsea's John Bumstead.

Then one radiant sunny afternoon
as I flicked through Alex Holt's collection.
The gormless face, the mullet hair,
it was John Bumstead perfection.

Panini, Panini,
oh we've been together for so long.
Panini, Panini,
to you I dedicate this song Panini.

Panini.
