Talking to Trees
You left the door wide open
For your thoughts to spill
But suppose your brain's already filled
But there's still some months to pick off where we once left off
When we didn't fail to spawn a newborn thought
You would sit back in the corner while I played my TV games
I said to wait your turn
But that turn never came
Now that we're older
I feel a bit ashamed
If you still want to
I'll take the lead
And I'll follow the way
I'm just so used to putting myself before everyone else
But I'll let go of that mantra
And I'll keep it on the shelf
We would play in the backyard
We would throw on the stones
Act like we're in the movies
Started making out own
We would take funny pictures
And weren't afraid to smile
I can't remember the last time
I'm guessing it's been a while
There's a point when your older
That you forget all the fun
I guess I'll throw on my jacket
And I'll go for a run
I was driving past your house and then I think I was afraid
Is it just some wall on a foundation and more than just a place?
I can see in my future
I'll spend miles and miles away
But if I'll live away from home
What difference does it make?
I'm holding on to something that I let go of years before
The past is just but history
The future is kicking down the door
