The Tides

So I guess again I can't make it match the plan
I've come up short but not like this before
Wanted the river but this is the sea
Watched as I fell in the deep
Can't trust me
Notice the tides when they're over
Cause you'll miss the highs when you're older
Saw the moon up in the sky like a passerby
Too soon for it to fly but it's gone in one night
And through it all I used to never pay any mind
If only I knew it was the thing controlling the tides
I'd have taken my time through the morning
And loved the light I saw before me
And never lived a day ignoring
The waters are all mine for exploring
