My First Day At School

Verse 1 A brand new pair of shoes,
A clean and freshly-ironed shirt.
The boys’ hair washed and brushed,
The girls’ tied back so tight it hurt!
Trying to prise my hand
Away from my weeping mummy,
While butterflies
Fluttered in my tummy!

Chorus It’s a memory that I hold so dear,
Worth more than any precious jewel.
A combination of delight and fear
Is how I’ll remember my first day at school!

Verse 2 I’d only been there half an hour
When it dawned on me,
